This is a comprehensive introduction to cruising for inexperienced skippers. This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising. This course is the perfect preparation for the Day Skippers Practical course.
The course includes great information on seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, seamanship, coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations.
The course takes approximately 40 hours to complete with an assessment of 2 parts (1.5 hours for each) taken in one sitting.

Course access is for six months, this can be extended if required for a further six months for a fee of 50€.
All exams and assessments can be taken online in your own home or they can be done here with us before you head out on your practical week.

- A plotter and divider set is provided as part of the Day Skipper course pack.

Ability after the course: Background knowledge to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day.
Invigilated Assessments
Invigilation may be required for all theory courses if they are to be used commercially. These can be offered for free to anyone who books an online course with us and who requires an invigilated assessment here at Sailing School Brittany. We can also arrange invigilated assessments elsewhere in the world, at a cost.
