This course is designed for those with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation to Coastal Skipper an Yachtmaster Offshore level, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages under the guidance of the instructor. You will learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.
It is a satisfying but intensive week, with candidates often working towards a Certificate of Competence.
By the end of the course, you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster.
- Course Overview: Advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women with considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation.
- Previous experience required: 15 days aboard (2 as Skipper), 300 miles, 8 night hours on board a sailing yacht.
- Assumed Knowledge: Navigation to Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore theory standard. Please refer to our RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore theory page to see details of the theory course. Sailing to Day Skipper Practical standard.
- Minimum Age: 17 (Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent.)
- What next – go on to complete your Yachtmaster.

- 6 days and 5 nights onboard.
